Hardware Troubleshooting
If your KeyWhere panel is behaving unexpectedly, the below may assist in resolving issues.
Some of the common errors are listed below:
-
Key(s) showing up as missing when the key is on the hook
-
Loan(s) aren't showing up on the board after being completed in the app or web
-
Slow red flashes on one or all positions
-
No lights on the panel at all
Reset the board
As with any piece of technology, often the best action you can perform is to reset the unit. To do this, simply unplug the main power supply from the wall for around 20 seconds, then reconnect it. Unfortunately, some hardware faults occur temporarily, and this will allow the unit to reset everything internally and often come back working perfectly. If this does not fix the issue, please read on.
Missing keys when key present:
RFID tag reading is not 100% perfect all the time. As above, please ensure the first step is always to reset the unit. Should the issue persist, there are some key ways to mitigate read issues:
-
Push the tag against the board and wait for the board to attempt to read the tag (you may see a yellow flashing light which will indicate it is loading)
-
Reorganise the keyset if it's larger than (large keysets pull the tag out of read range in some cases)
If no amount of movement helps the board see the key, place another key on that position to ensure it reads correctly. If it does you may wish to replace the unresponsive key tag.
Slow Red flashes (one or all positions):
This is a warning that the board has lost connection to the Wi-Fi or server and could not complete the operation. Wi-Fi internet is prone to going intermittently up and down. Just move another key if this occurs. Should the board not come back at all, please check the internet connection being used by the panel. If you are certain the internet connection is good, then restart the board.
No Lights on panel:
Simply move a key on the board and see if the panel lights back up. If it does, this means that you have the power saving mode enabled, thus dimming the lights.
